Effective immediately, all employers in Ontario must now screen employees and “essential visitors” for COVID-19 upon their entry to the workplace every day.
This mandatory screening requirement was implemented over the weekend and requires that employers follow the recommendations of the Office of the Chief Medical Officer of Health on COVID-19 screening. Those requirements are set out in the guide found here.
The following individuals must be screened upon entry:
- “workers” which includes students, contractors and volunteers; and
- “essential visitors” which includes individuals providing services in the establishment who are not employees or clients of the organization (ex. couriers, maintenance personnel, and other contractors)
The following individuals are excluded from screening:
- Clients entering the workplace; and
- Emergency service workers or other first responders entering a workplace for emergency purposes.
Employers should immediately implement a screening procedure to adhere to these requirements, using the checklist in the link above. If you have any questions about mandatory COVID-19 screening in the workplace do not hesitate to reach out.
