We are also thrilled to announce that Dave Williams has once again been named as the Best Lawyers® 2016 “Lawyer of the Year” for London and Windsor in Insurance Law. Additionally, Harrison Pensa’s Restructuring, Insolvency and Bankruptcy Group also received a “Top listed” designation with Best Lawyers for having the most listed lawyers in the region and practice area with the addition of Ian Wallace to this years ranking.

Best Lawyers has been publishing the annual guide for over 30 years, In 2006, Best Lawyers in Canada became the company’s first international list, which since then has grown to include lists in over 65 countries worldwide. Selection to Best Lawyers is based on a rigorous peer-review survey and reflects a high level of respect these lawyers have earned among their peers.

David Williams has been named by Best Lawyers® to be among Canada’s top lawyers every year since 2006. He has also been named “Lawyer Of The Year” for London and Windsor in the areas of Corporate and Commercial Litigation, Bet-The-Company Litigation, Personal Injury Litigation and Insurance Law for 2011, 2012, 2014 and 2016. Only one lawyer in each practice area in each community is honoured as a “Lawyer of the Year.” Dave is considered by many to be one of Ontario’s most respected civil litigators. He specializes in class action litigation, complex commercial litigation, personal injury and insurance defence. Notably, Dave also has a special record of achievement in medical malpractice cases where he has successfully represented plaintiffs. He is designated by the Law Society of Upper Canada as a specialist in Civil Litigation and was inducted into the American College of Trial Lawyers in 2009.

Janet Clark was named as one of the leading lawyers in the country in the area of Trusts and Estates first in 2014, again in 2015 and this year. Ms. Clark’s practice involves estate administration, estate planning, corporate succession planning and trusts, and charities law. She has lectured for the Law Society of Upper Canada, continuing legal education, various charities, and interest groups, and taught the Estate Planning and Administration Bar Admission Course for many years. She has been extremely active within the London community for many years.

Tim Hogan was honoured as being among the top Canadian lawyers in the area of Insolvency and Financial Restructuring in 2014, 2015 and again in 2016. Tim represents creditors and receivers in insolvency, bankruptcy and private and court-appointed receivership situations. He represents trustees in complex insolvencies and bankruptcies, Monitors and other stakeholders in CCAA proceedings as well as major financial institutions in work out and insolvency situations. Tim appears at all levels of court dealing with insolvency matters including Commercial List proceedings. He also practices commercial litigation and has acted in matters ranging from contract disputes and securities compliance both at trial and appeal levels. Tim is also a lecturer and instructor to numerous credit industry groups and is the author of various continuing legal education papers on insolvency issues.

Michele Mannering was first selected by her peers for inclusion in the Ninth Edition of Best Lawyers in Canada in the practice area of Banking and Finance Law and has been recognized again for inclusion in the 2016 edition. Michele is the Business & Financial Services Practice Group Co-Leader and senior Partner whose practice includes commercial finance and a wide range of business transactions. With a focus on lending and borrowing arrangements and business acquisitions and sales, she represents individuals, corporations and financial institutions. Michele has taught corporate finance at the University of Western Ontario, Faculty of Law, and Business Law at the Bar Admission Course for the Law Society of Upper Canada.

Jonathan Foreman was also first selected by his peers for inclusion in the Ninth Edition of Best Lawyers in Canada in the practice area of Class Action Litigation and has been recognized again for inclusion in the 10th annual edition. Jonathan has also been previously honoured in 2013 as one of Lexpert’s Leading Lawyers Under 40 in Canada and by Business London Magazine as a member of London, Ontario’s top 20 under 40.  Jon has litigated a full range of class action matters and has accumulated considerable class actions trial experience in particular.  Jon has litigated class action matters involving securities law, competition law, financial services and insurance, pensions and employment law, intellectual property, franchise law, consumer complaints and product liability law. A frequent writer and presenter on class actions at leading legal conferences, Jon also often provides legal commentary to media outlets such as the CBC, the National Post, the Globe and Mail, the Lawyers Weekly and others. Jon is a graduate of the law school at Western University and also completed the “Emerging Leaders in Law Firms” executive legal program at the Harvard Law School.

Ian Wallace is the firm’s newest addition to the growing list of partners who have been recognized by Best Lawyers. Ian is a Partner within the Restructuring, Insolvency and Bankruptcy Group and represents clients involved in larger restructurings and insolvency matters. He has acted for both debtors, secured creditors and financial institutions with respect to receiverships, the Companies’ Creditors Arrangement Act and bankruptcy proceedings. In conjunction with these proceedings he regularly appears on matters on the Commercial List of the Superior Court of Justice and other litigation matters involving an insolvency or banking aspect. Ian participated as a Bar Admission Course lecturer for many years and has presented several papers on insolvency related matters at professional conferences.
