David’s corporate practice is focused on supporting the legal needs for a full range of clients, from multi-national corporations to startups. Changing political landscapes can create uncertainty for businesses and David assists clients with ensuring they are compliant with the most up-to-date regulations affecting their business and industries and advises them on how to position themselves for success in the future. David supports businesses in all stages of growth: From incorporations to reorganizations, mergers and exits, David’s practice if focused on the full life cycle of businesses and all their changing legal needs.
David’s Employment Law practice covers the full range of workplace issues on both the employee and employer side. He assist clients with drafting and reviewing employment contracts and non-disclosure agreements and advocate for parties in wrongful termination actions. He also assist with proceedings before the Ontario Human Rights Tribunal, Labour Relations Board and Workplace Safety and Insurance Board. David understands that Employment and Labour Law is rapidly changing to accommodate the changes in our workforce and works with both employees and employers so they can fully understand their rights and obligations and they can manage their workforce with certainty.
As a practitioner in Harrison Pensa’sTechnology and Privacy Law Group, David also works with innovators in all industries and advises them on their intellectual property rights and obligations. Clients often don’t even know when they have an intellectual property issue until it has grown into a dispute. David works with a team of experienced lawyers to ensure our client’s intellectual property rights are protected through licenses, private agreements, and trademarks.
Before pursuing a career in law David was an entrepreneur and former small business owner. He also worked in economic development and for Bruce Power in a business support capacity.
David is a graduate from the Bora Laskin Faculty of Law at Lakehead University. During his law school career, David was the VP Finance of the Law Students’ Society, edited the law school’s publication the Northern Law Compass and was awarded course prizes in Property Law and Professional Responsibility, including winning first place in the Lakehead Charter Moot.
Born and raised in Kincardine, Ontario, David learned to play the bagpipes and was a former member of the Kincardine Scottish Pipe Band and Director of the Kincardine Scottish Festival and Highland Games. He also speaks fluent Japanese.
