Carol Godby

Carol's practice focuses on litigation and negotiation in Aboriginal Law. She advises First Nations and First Nations' organizations on a broad range of issues including resource and benefit sharing, consultation and accommodation, infringement of aboriginal and treaty rights, protection of indigenous traditional knowledge, employment, estates, governance and elections. Carol has appeared before all levels of court as well as tribunals, such as the Ontario Energy Board, the Indian Claims Commission and the Canada Labour Relations Board. Carol works with her clients and colleagues to ensure that clients receive the best expertise and optimal results in other practice areas such as business development and corporate finance.

Carol was the recipient of the Intellectual Property and Technology Law Award for the LLM course she completed in May, 2008. She currently serves on the board of directors for Glen Cairn Community Resource Centre and is a former director of Family Service London and a former executive member of the Aboriginal Law Section of the Canadian Bar Association. Carol has been doing pro bono work in conjunction with Washington University in St. Louis on an initiative to protect and maintain indigeneous traditional knowledge of First Nations people and has recently completed independent research on the use of geographic indicators in the marketing and sale of traditionally harvested wild rice in northwest Ontario.
