Q: How is practicing law different than you thought it would be?

There is a huge business side to operating a successful legal practice, and that is not something that we’re taught in law school.  In law school, we learn about legal concepts in a more abstract, conceptual setting.  However, in daily practice, we also need to think about docketing, billing, and managing client expectations, which are things that you really can’t learn by reading a textbook.

Q: What makes a typical day great?

Going in front of a judge, making your (hopefully) well-reasoned argument, and getting the result you want after hours of preparation.  And then being able to tell the client about it.

Q: If you couldn’t be a lawyer, what would you do?

Travel writer. Or professional food critic. Professional food critic who travels?

Q: Hit random on your iPod – what are the top 5 songs that come up?

  1. Campus – Vampire Weekend
  2. Days go By – Keith Urban
  3. Electric Chapel – Lady GaGa
  4. All Canadian Surf Club – Tragically Hip
  5. Wonderwall – Oasis

Q: Last foreign country that I visited was? Why?

I went on vacation to Paris, France for a week in August.  I almost didn’t come home…
